Mark chats as unread Have you ever read a chat and then completely forgot to reply? Not anymore. You can now go back to the important chats by marking with dot to remind you. Android: Long press chat > Open Menu > Mark as Unread iOS: Chats > Swipe left to right > Mark as Unread Hide your profile picture Is it one of those days that you don’t want anyone to see your profile picture or you want to remain unseen to certain people of the group that you are a part of. Either way, you can select if everyone, only your contacts, or no-one can see your picture. iOS & Android: Settings > Account > Privacy > Profile Photo Know whom you talk to the most Do you know there is a way in iOS that lets you find out the people you send the most messages? It also lets you know how much storage each person occupies among other things. iOS: Settings > Account > Storage Usage > Select Contact Save your data allowance It is important to limit your data allowance while you are using WhatsApp if you are on a data plan. In WhatsApp, you can customise and ensure that calls use as little data as possible, as well as at the time of media download. iOS and Android: Settings > Data Usage Know how long you have been ignored Do you get impatient or annoyed when you see that the person whom you have sent a message have read your message (blue ticks) but not replied? While we would not recommend this, there is a way you can figure out in WhatsApp when your message was actually read and how long you have been ignored for. Android: Chats > Specific chat > Menu > More > Add Shortcut or Chats > Press and hold individual chat > Menu > Add Chat Shortcut Bookmark important messages Whether it’s a meeting that you need to attend, or a birthday party to remember, there are some messages that are more important than others. However, it is now possible to bookmark these messages and find them all easily in the Starred Messages section. Android: Chats > Specific chat > Specific message > Hold down and press the star iOS: Chats > Specific chat > Specific message > Double tap or hold down and press the star Send a public message privately Want to catch up with your friends on a free evening but don’t want to send an individual message to everybody in your chat? You can send a broadcast message to a list of contacts that would appear as though you have asked them individually. Android: Chats > Menu > New Broadcast iOS: Chats > Broadcast Lists > New List > Add contacts Add dates to your calendar automatically It is possible to automatically create an event directly from WhatsApp on iOS. iOS: Press and hold date within chat > Create Event Customise notifications There may be particular contacts you want to know immediately if they are calling or messaging you.
