For those unaware, SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a program of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India that provides one combined platform and portal for online courses to citizens of India free of cost. The course named “Introduction to Blockchain Technology and Applications” is free for all to enroll and learn from. Starting from February 24, 2020, this AICTE-approved FDP course will run for 8 weeks with the course ending on April 17, 2020. The course will be taught by professor Sandeep Shukla of the Indian Institute of Technology (ITT) Kanpur. The course will cover a range of topics, starting from Introduction to Bitcoin Blockchain, Hashing, Public Key Cryptosystems, Private vs. Public Blockchains and their use cases, Bitcoin Blockchain and Scripts, Hash Puzzles, Ethereum and Smart Contracts, Introduction to Hyperledger, Corda, Uses of Blockchain in E-Governance, Land Registration, Medical Information Systems, Mining Consensus and much more. It will also focus on various use cases of blockchain technology. While the course is free to join and learn, those who wish to get a certificate at the completion of the course will have to register and write the proctored exam in person at any of the designated centers. The exam is optional for a fee of INR 1,000/- and will be held on April 25, 2020. It also plans to launch another program called “Cryptography and Network Security” in the coming year that briefly explains the subject of bitcoin and cryptocurrency.
