Ford Motor posted a statement on its website which says there is a flaw in the body control module software in the vehicles. As a result of the problem, the engine could keep running after the key is turned to “off” and removed, or after the start/stop button is pressed to turn the engine off.
The recall covers some model 2015 Focus cars, C-Max hybrids and Escape sport utility vehicles. About 375,000 of the recalled cars were sold in the U.S., 52,000 in Canada and 5,000 in Mexico. This recall is not only bad for the Ford but equally frustrating for those 433,000 car owners. The software but is also a major nuisance for the car service centers and dealerships because they have to now update and patch the software that was buggy, for each and every one of those 433,000 even if takes just a few minutes for the engineers to patch it. Couldnt such a logistic nightmare avoided by Ford if it had made the systems update by themselves or through owner approval over the air much like smartphone do. With more and more companies now working for a smarter car, software glitches, vulnerabilities and flaws will soon be common occurance. Isnt it time for the big manufacturers like Ford, BMW, Mercedes to get there act together and work upon some sort of software update deliver over Internet mechanism. Such OTA updates would not only keep the customers happy but also save huge amount of money and hardships to all concerned.
